It wasn’t just this man, it was the entire Democratic Party. Remember well that in the four years leaning up to the election, while the Republican party was playing 6-D chess trying to figure out every possible avenue they could use to sieze power, the Dems decided their best chance at defeating Trump was running Sleepy Joe Biden.

They did Bernie fucking dirty in 2016.

Then Biden knew he could run on name recognition alone and trounce Bernie in 2020. He knew people were pining for the Obama days and played off that nostalgia.

Fuck Hillary Clinton, fuck Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, Kamala Harris is okay, fuck Joe Biden, and fuck the DNC. There’s no reason they shouldn’t run a progressive candidate, but it’s clear they’re allergic to winning elections.

Also, did anyone seem to notice that “weird” dropped out of campaign messaging in the last couple months following the nom? Can’t help but think the DNC was behind that. Calling them weird was their kryptonite, even if Kamala Harris essentially said, “I’d do nothing different from Joe.”

Joe Biden was a perfectly okay president. He was pretty invisible for the most part. He was a boring president. But he didn’t bring the FIRE Bernie had in 2016 and 2020. He ran at a time when he KNEW he would win because Bernie was too far to the left for the DNC to be comfortable, and for that, I consider him a coward.

We didn’t deserve a President Sanders, but holy shit did we ever NEED him. And yes, I am coping pretty hard right now.

Everyone says they did Bernie dirty in 2016, but no one ever brings up how in 2020, the establishment dems all dropped out of the race in exchange for cabinet positions to rally around the elder statesman Biden—when Bernie was winning the primaries.

That, in my opinion, is far dirtier and a much bigger “fuck you” to leftists/progressives/humanists than 2016.

I brought that up, literally minutes ago. 100%

Biden was getting trounced. The party was embarrassed, so they made a bunch of backroom deals and sharpened their knives. Then Liz Warren stuck her blade in Sanders’ back on live TV.

I’ve wrestled with this quite a bit. And as someone who donated to his political campaigns, multiple times, I still think Bernie has to go too. It’s not that he’s wrong, it’s that he’s just too old to be doing work. The optics are awful.

The larger issue is that the Dem party has been nipping buds before they can even stretch for the sun, for decades. So any real progressive candidates will need to be drawn in from the outside. Which also means the Dem party itself needs to be dismantled from the top, and reconstructed to be effective in the 21st century. Late 1900s strategies are all the Dems have been offering, while losing again and again and again. Bernie has been an Independent since 1978. And that’s largely a function of Vermont. So the question is, how can we affect the political landscape such that living fossils understand they’re no longer wanted, when their entire careers are predicated on egoism insisting that theirs are the necessary hands on the tiller?

So, I’m not saying throw the wizened baby out with the bathwater, but asking an 83 year old man to serve another 6 years is not fair to anyone. And despite his fantastic vigor, it’s a recipe for diminishing returns.

No, because he never said it directly just hinted at it:

Asked in October if he would only serve one term if elected, the former vice president told the Associated Press that he wouldn’t make that promise but he wasn’t deeply committed to seeking a second term.

“I feel good and all I can say is, watch me, you’ll see,” Biden said. “It doesn’t mean I would run a second term. I’m not going to make that judgment at this moment.”

However there were several advisors on his campaign that said it:

“If Biden is elected, he’s going to be 82 years old in four years and he won’t be running for reelection,” a prominent adviser to the campaign told Politico.

Anyone under the age of 60 … and as a person of colour, I hate to say it but … a white male

Elect a bunch of socially minded white male leaders for a few terms and then you can move on to a progressive modern leader like a woman of colour

We haven’t jumped into the future yet … everyone still acts like deranged cavemen so don’t hope for dramatic changes to happen like eliminating racism to take place in the space of a hundred years.

There is overwhelming evidence that black and Latino voters helped carry this election for Trump, and that there largest concerns were economic ones that Harris was ignoring.

Or, instead of just continually repeating easily disputable strawman arguments, you could try listening to the issues these people are saying affect them? Overwhelming, the reason these groups voted for Trump is because Kamala was not offering them economic change, and Trump is. It doesn’t matter that he’s lying, they’re just desperate. If you just don’t want to believe them, maybe check your own biases first.

I disagree. There’s a level where you cannot claim blind ignorance. As the saying goes, fool me once…

They’re not incapable of thinking. They might be less educated if you really wanna go down that road (because many would jump to that excuse next) and it still doesn’t excuse this.

They will be on the chopping block very quickly and will cry about it. At that stage? They deserve what’s coming to them. If what you say is true, which I disagree, they voted due to greed, but they had benefit of 2016, you don’t get to claim “they were desperate” solely because Harris didn’t give them perfect solution on silver platter and focused solely on them.

There simply is no excuse and immigrants can be more racist than locals, being one myself, I hate my own “kin” speaking their own language being protected from no one else understanding them. The usual left bullshit, purity tests being the be all and end all has fucked the US yet again.

People will die because of this, be it from starvation, cold, being deported whatever and they will have themselves to blame. I feel sorry for those that saw through it and voted… But 14 million less votes vs 2020? No excuse.

This is very emotional time, sugar coating doesn’t help anyone.

solely because Harris didn’t give them perfect solutions

Let’s be very clear about this, Harris gave them no solutions. Harris said “I will support the existing status quo, the economy is great, there are no problems.” Try and remember that these are people who are actively struggling and desperate for anyone who will tell them things will improve, and Harris openly told these people that things are fine and do not need to improve. Are you really surprised that they do not listen to her?

Blithely shutting down dissent and ignoring people is what got us into this mess. Maybe instead of making a bunch of people into scapegoats, there could just be an acknowledgement that the Harris campaign fucked up a ton and failed.

Actually no there isn’t. Black voters voted in majority for kamala. Even Latinos voted majority for kamala. She lost some percentage points with those groups, but by far and away white men and women voted for Trump, not for kamalcanif your only recourse in each election year is to hope you get enough black and brown voters to win you the eldtion, then maybe don’t alienate all those voters and tell them their concerns don’t matter for a year before the election.

It’s absolutely a problem if in a single election cycle you go from 60-70% support to just over 50%. In tight elections like the last few that is a losing formula. Especially for Latinos who are the fastest growing minority. If Republicans keep this up they could be getting almost 60% of that vote in 2024, and Democrats are suddenly the ones facing irrelevance based on voter demographics.

I agree with you. Born and raised in Florida, moved to Tennessee. I was one of those who didn’t want Biden, but was afraid taking him out of the race would escalate sexist/racist voters to sway. I think we can clearly say it swayed about 10 million people who previously voted for Biden.

Harris would have been a better president long term for this country, Biden got shit done (that was shit done in a good way). Now we are in the end of times. I’m no Democrat, but fuck did I hope they could pull off a win. 10m also is likely the number of people who will be murdered in Ukraine if all our support is pulled. Fortunately Putin and Trump don’t give 2 fucks about people, so they will work the long game and he will settle in first, and slowly pull away the blanket. And the dumbasses who voted for him will keep choking on the blanket trying to claim it isn’t true. Russia stepped back and settled in for the long war how long ago? The long game is for them now.

Iran will keep kicking them everything they need, what they don’t have, China will. Flip side is Israel. If Trump doesn’t get his family’s waterside properties they scoped values on in Gaza a few years ago… Israel will be left to the wolves as well. And don’t worry, just like last time, Hitrump doesn’t dislike Jews, it’s just good for his business. And no business matters but his

Looking at exit polls, people were far more concerned with the economy than anything else. I don’t think Israel mattered much to average people. Biden/Harris got fucked with pandemic inflation and people are too dumb to realize it had nothing to do with them. And that will be further reinforced because inflation is under control now so Trump will look great having done nothing whatsoever.

This was totally the fault of Democrats. They are the reason they lost. Blaming anyone else or acting like it was just a coincidence is nothing more than denying reality. Israel and the Cheney parade definitely played a role. The negative ads targeting progressives like Jill Stein played a role. Kamala hiding from progressive networks that would ask real questions played a role. The Democratic party has become nothing more than a dysfunctional corporate bureaucracy that thinks they can convince everyone that shit is gold.

All that sounds like your subjective view not based on data. Not saying the DNC is perfect by any means, but it’s clear the economy was by far the #1 issue in this election. I mentioned exit polls earlier, and also Trump was way up compared to 2020 even in extremely rural counties. Israel, Cheney, Stein, etc have nothing to do with that.

It isn’t subjective. Voters will tell you why they didn’t turn out or voted third party. The economy is important, but Harris turning to Mark Cuban to push establishment messaging wasn’t a good selling point either.

They could have distanced themselves from the current administration though. They could have acknowledged that inflation has fucked most people, and be far more direct about addressing it than vague price gouging investigations that should be happening now. They could have come out in favor of any and every union striking. They could have had policies to guarantee profit sharing or granting equity. They could have made the totally empty promise of fighting for main street and not wall street.

Bruh if you’re still giving a shit about what any pre-election polls were saying after they’ve repeatedly failed to predict so many elections I don’t know what to tell you.

I said it before he stepped down- America is too misogynist and racist to vote in Harris. Even the economic left. Would Biden have done better? I can’t say. But I do think it’s pretty damning that Harris didn’t even win the popular vote like Biden and Hillary did.

Polls are good for gauging general sentiment. If you’re expecting them to accurately predict results in the sort of tight races this US has then you’ll have a bad time.

Trump got same amount of votes as last time, but Harris got 14m less. So congrats, Democrats have fucked themselves over, yet again! Or you hate women or you hate PoC.

Sad truth. But numbers don’t lie.

On one hand, I feel sorry for you Americans, but majority of you have chose this… What a joke.

I was at a coffee place drive-through a couple of months ago and they always leave the window open there, so I heard them chatting inside and one of them was not even aware Biden was president. She literally said, “I thought Trump was the president.”

there’s a certain kind of privilege in that. like, life must be so good for people to not even bother knowing who’s president.

Did you ever read 1984? The proles don’t care because their lives have continued on as normal. It is definitely its own kind of privilege, but you’re also talking about someone who is making a tiny income working at a coffee shop. She’s poor and uneducated, which will continue to be to her benefit. I didn’t see her, but she’s probably white too since this is Indiana.

            She’s still a woman though.

Jesus Christ, seriously? The amount of political ads we were bombarded with for 6 months leading up to November, and people didn’t realize Biden wasn’t running?

And yet despite all the warning signs his hubris disrupted the democratic process and progressives were once again told to fall in line and back a candidate who campaigned on appealing to the center-right.

The Dems have let down the American people, again.

I’m not really interested in making excuses for the 70+ million Americans that voted for a racist, sexist, felon fraud and rapist.

You can certainly harbor contempt for the American people who choose such a morally bankrupt coalition while also recognizing that the oppositional movement has repetitively failed to inspire its own voter base to turn out.

The fact remains that the Dems have thrice now run on a platform of unity and forsaken the will of the Left in an attempt to appeal to those who would happily annihilate the Left in pursuit of its own goals.

If youre so fucking stupid as to not vote while a fascist is running then you deserve everything and more.

People need to realize this isn’t fucking Christmas and you simply pick the least bad option or you end up here. At least those lazy fucks can feel smug while we’re all in the shit.

            Dumb fucks.
