I don’t know how unpopular it is, but I’d like to be able to buy individual series without having to pay a monthly charge for a platform.

Say $20.00 for the first four seasons of “Slow Horses”

You could watch the first half of the first episode for free, and then have the option to buy.

Not unlike when people buy ‘season tickets’ for the NFL games.

edit = I have invented DVD box sets. What a genius!!

I’ve grown tired of everything having a subscription and the costs rising every year.

It’s much better to just purchase what you want to watch or self host.

I don’t watch over 90% of what’s on Netflix anyways.

Some streaming shows use sex, sexualized nudity, and the word “fuck” WAY too much. I specify sexual nudity because it’s always sex based, and it starts hindering the rest of the show

Streaming TV services still offer an exceptional value, as compared to the cable subscriptions of yesteryear, without the ads. The content is way way better. Plus you get to pick and choose what channels to subscribe to.

I typically rotate my subscription to a different service every 3 months or so.

I don’t mind the 2+ year wait between seasons.

Sure I want the seasons to come out as soon as they can and having to wait multiple years is a bummer, but I can wait.

My excitement for a show does fade, but it comes back as soon as the show is ready to air.

We should reclaim the broadcast airwaves from television companies and use it to broadcast news, sports, and PBS, all paid for with taxes. There’s no reason that one conglomerate should have a monopoly on the electromagnetic spectrum so they can be showing Judge Judy reruns all day.

I would rather fanfic-tier adaptions (e.g. Man in the High Castle, Foundation) were not made. I don’t have issue with creative adaptations or re-interpretations, or even attempts that don’t go well. I do have issue with taking the setting and making up some random concept. Make up your own settings.

Season 02 of True Detective was all in all a better production than Season 01. The first season was objectively better made, the second was in many ways flawed, but it had a realistic ending and more gritty motifs.

Mini series or tight single season series are generally much better quality than multi-season narrative driven productions. This of course doesn’t apply to sitcoms, anthologies, [show concept] of the week series where there is minimal emphasis on a broader narrative arc.

Game of Thrones is not a must watch TV show. If you are into that type of stuff go for it, but it doesn’t much much of a value in your life if you do watch it.

imho ‘Black Sails’ did everything GOT was supposed to do with much less talk. Plenty of sex, violence, and intrigue done with great acting and photography.

    • I fucking love Game of Thrones, but it’s also obvious that the show took a noticeable drop in quality. Starting at season 5 and arriving at season 7, it’s astounding the level of complete incompetence from the writers and characters making asinine decisions and nothing makes sense anymore, and Game of Thrones season 8 is a complete train wreck. It’s a shame, because all the way up to there, the first four seasons are absolutely amazing.

Yeah when they announced no lady Stoneheart I knew it wasn’t going to continue being good. I’m not even a big fan of her but man is she important to the story and how things are changing in the world.

“Alien3” was awful, “Resurrection” was great and should have been the end. Everything after that was garbage. Double if there was a Predator involved.

Check out the special edition, it’s obviously the same movie, but much better. I thought the Theatrical edition was decent (liked it more than Resurrection and I thought to was fine).

You can on BlueRay or just type “Alien 3 Special Edition” in rutracker[dot]org if you are OK with sailing the high seas.

I will also recommend the Prometheus Chaos Edition fanedit and Alien: Covenant Ninth Circle Edition fanedits.

I have these versions in my collection and not any official cuts. Especially for Prometheus, it makes the movie far more coherent and less stupid. It’s interesting that mostly extras and deleted scenes were used (some promo content was also integrated in a well done way) which suggests that the problems with Prometheus are mostly due to the editing, seems like Ridley Scott has lost interest in the Alien franchise.

            PM me if anything.

              I think I’ll pass.

But thank you and here’s an under rated book that I think you’d enjoy.

“The Guns Above” by Robyn Bennis. Suppose that people in the early 1800’s had access to an unlimited supply of helium? They would naturally build airships!

The author does a fantastic job of imagining the ship and how it’s operated.

              Lots of fun.
