I like how everyone is ignoring the meme and just talking about traffic and highway design instead.
Bro it’s just to bad tho
It is absolutely stupid to add more lines for a main road as long as the outflow from it can’t handle it. Ten lanes of motorway makes no sense if the one outlet 90% of the cars want to take has one lane and nasty traffic lights at the next corner.
City planners should be forced to play Cities:Skylines. Lessons to be learned: a) Make public transport good and free, and b) Lane Maths.
Also a lot about mods and bottlenecks.
Part of the problem with city planners is that much of their job is just alleviating car traffic. And if they were successful at doing (like making good public transport and walkable cities) they would have far less work, and be put out of a job.
That being said, I think they would realistically just start working on other city issues, but I think that’s the mindset that keeps them building this kind of stuff.
I bet there’s also a factor of that things are already going in this direction, and there’s already more demand for driving, and it’s far more difficult to go against the grain.
I present to you hwy 401 in Toronto Ontario Canada. 18 lanes at its widest point. (Just south of Pearson International Airport)
That’s nasty
Imagine, all these commuter cars, steel, concrete and asphalt could be replaced with a single 30 megaton blast crater.
I’m genuinely craving that when i see this pic.
I went looking for 404 but that can’t be found.
And still stop and go anywhere near rush hour
crazy
Is that for real? That looks insane.
America bad and everything but this looks like it’s a photo of the China National Highway 110 traffic jam
405 interstate modified https://newsroom.ucla.edu/releases/405-traffic-altered-image-factcheck
Thank you Cunningham’s Law
Edit: i don’t mean that in a bad way, thanks for providing the source
You know how the weather forecast has the temperature and the “feels like” temperature?
Well, this is the 405 and the “feels like” 405.
The traffic in Beijing and even more so Seoul really disappointed me. Why do so many people drive when theres subways and buses every 2 minutes at rush hour? I mean I get Beijing a little, all the roads are so wide and the subway stations are so massive, but seoul even has dedicated bus lanes that beat cars at rush hour, and people still drive.

Cunts in my area.
Even if its not I know LA has crazy traffic from being in it
Lol you can tell how old this picture is because no one has those asshole, melt your face led headlights.
It is, and im a posadist for a bit after seeing this crap. Every time.
No it is not. There copies of cars everywhere. Looks like they just doubled everything horizontally.
Classic you’re being downvoted by those with little internet common sense. The image is doctored and the patterns repeat frequently - you’re right.
E: feel free to downvote me all you want, that won’t make you any less wrong
Ehm, nope? You know that white and black/dark blue/dark greyish are the most prevalent car colors?
Look at the trucks and minivans that are a bit more distinct. Their patterns with other white cars around do not repeat.
Also the one in the picture only has 20 lanes. The US widest has 26 lanes

You sound insufferable and also you’re wrong.

The claim was that everything was copied horizontally, which is evidently not the case in the picture. Also as i have linked the widest “freeway” in the US has even more lanes.
Thank you for posting the article. As you can read in the article they prove the fact that the image is altered by pointing out the number of lanes being wrong, not by “suspicious patterns” in the cars.
The claim that the image was just doubled horizontally simply does not check out. There was more effort put into creating the fake.

Go count them for yourself (or just search Katy Freeway into Google maps and turn on satellite view if you don’t want to click this link)
The number of lanes is insane
In the original there are definitely suspicious repeating and mirrored patterns.
Where?
this is the one that jumped out at me. On closer inspection, it seems like the some of the traffic on the left side is headed away from the camera. And also, some of the shadows, again on the left side seem to be different to the rest. I’d guess that the left hand has been shopped more, with maybe minimal filling of thebright side.
Could be here?
The Katy Freeway isn’t that bad, but dammit it’s TRYING!
Hwys really should not need to be any wider that what’s shown in this photo.
Trucks and trailers on the right always, cars in the middle, and passing on the left.
Or for our UK friend’s. Lorries on the left always, cars in the middle, and passing on the right.
and 99% of the US roadways are this or less.
But when a road connects three urban areas with multiple suburbs in every direction, weird things happen. Most traffic horror isn’t in road planning at all, it’s in urban and suburban planning.
Why do 3 million people need to get from one side of LA to the other on a regular basis?
All the highways in Massachusetts are like this
one more line bro
All good and well until you have a 3 or 4 trailer road train limited to 90kph with a poor little box truck stuck behind it wanting to do 110kph. Trucks should be allowed in the middle lane for overtaking each other.
Maybe you and I can agree that a wall of Trucks and Trailers like this should never be allowed?
More like “just one more lane”
What the hell is that?!

We really need trains that fast between two points which so many people travel.
If a train were to go along that whole motorway it would take up a fraction of the space, carry most if not all those people, and move them faster than this.
Is that I-10 through LA or I-10 through Houston?
Sounds like a slamdunk example for Mass Transport
