Unfortunately he already has, he’s violated every single us citizen by infringing upon our rights as Americans and I’ll be dammed if I’m gonna let this orange cunt into my house again, bc that’s what happens if he wins, we are allowing djt into our homes, our schools, our hospitals and beyond.

Humans have honored the dead since before homo sapiens. Laws can be complicated, contradictory, and confusing; respecting the dead is clear and primal.

Yeah, this probably won’t change a lot of minds, but some folks will see there is something wrong about a man who would dishonor the dead to celebrate himself.

‘He had always treated us right’ lmfao. And they didn’t get a medical discharge for blindness? Because they are blind.

          • Dodged Vietnam by making up a case of ‘bone spurs’ that magically disappeared afterward
          • ‘I like people who weren’t captured’ to POW and war hero John McCain, repeatedly
          • 2018, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery near Paris. ‘In a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit, Trump said, “Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed.’
          • Called retired 4-star general John Allen a ‘failed general’, a cursory glance at his Wikipedia page or defense.gov page should illustrate why that’s absurd.
          • skipped out on visits to nearly every military cemetery he’s ever been invited to, usually because he’s afraid of the rain. He’s more worried about getting his hairpiece wet than he is worried about paying respect to men and women who died for America to lead to him standing where he is. After seeing his visit to Arlington that’s probably a good thing that he’s afraid of the rain and didn’t go to the others.

And those are just the really big and obvious ones that I remember and can easily look up quotes about. I guarantee you that’s not even a third of the list of the times he’s actively disrespected the military.

Trump doesn’t give half a fuck about you guys, you are not people in his eyes, you’re just guns on legs. He thinks it is your destiny to go die making him a profit, for the simple reason that you are a lower class than he is. If you listen to the statements that come out of his very own mouth it is obvious how he feels this way.

January 6th is not seen as an insurrection but as citizens banding together to protect democracy. Collusion with Russia was always seen as a false attempt to make him look bad, especially with things like the dossier being faked. Tax evasion is considered smart if you can do it legally, and the New York prosecution for what the industry considers standard practice reinforced the perspective that it was weaponizing the justice system. Autographed bibles are no more sacrilegious than any of the megachurch/televangelist who buys a private jet because God wants him to to.

Each one of those hurtles may take someone out of his camp, but for some that will only be if there is a viable alternative. Keep in mind that the alternative on the democratic side is trying to end their 2nd amendment rights, open the borders to secure a permanent underclass voting block, and lose the national protection of God by persecuting Christians. It doesn’t matter to what degree any of that is true, that is the hurtle they have to clear.

Since armed service is venerated more on the right than the left, and has higher percentages of veterans and their children, this might indeed be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for some or many. He is grifting in so many areas, that if he is also shown to be a grifter on respecting the armed services in addition to being a false Christian and 1 percenter elite then parts of his base might see him as no better than the Democrats.

Do Americans know the history of Arlington? I was quite amazed to learn how it became a military cemetery. Not hanging Robert Lee and the other high-ranking traitors is perhaps the biggest single mistake in US history. He is still the highest ranking US soldier to ever betray his country, no?

I think Benedict Arnold was a higher rank, but I guess it depends on if the US counted as a “country” at that time. Lee was a colonel when he betrayed the US and became a general under the Confederacy, while Arnold was a general at the time he betrayed the US.

Reconstruction did funny stuff and the mindsets at the time were different. The entire idea of the civil war centered around if we had a federal or confederated government. The confederate argument was states had to ratify the constitution, so therefore they could deratify and break away. Looking back this is obviously wrong, but a large minority of people believed this at the time, including the 15th President I believe. On the other hand, since Lee surrendered unconditionally, the thought process was you don’t kick the man while he’s down. Plus many men in the Union still considered Lee a heroic American figure. Not imprisoning him most likely led to an easier surrender by the rest of the Confederate forces and less paramilitary actions. Reconstruction further limited the punishment of top officials which was a mistake, though there was 0 chance they could end the thoughts and ideals that led to jim crow and the kkk, they could have certainly limited it.

Looking back this is obviously wrong

I suppose it was obviously wrong in practice because the Union’s greater population and industrial capacity made a Union victory almost inevitable, but I wouldn’t say it was obviously wrong as a legal theory. The US was created by people who thought they had a moral right to leave the British empire and in that context it would be odd for them to intend that there should be no legal way for any state to leave the USA.

My understanding is that the US constitution was adopted illegally, anyway. The previous government didn’t have a mechanism to do a full rewrite, I don’t think. The adoption of the constitution via “fuck it, this isn’t working” was almost in living memory at the time of the civil war.

I think the way US history is taught tends to be very civic religion-y

But also like fuck the slave states.

And he fucking does not care about it. According to him, the people buried there are “losers”, in case you have forgotten.

  • You know those videos of people talking on their cell phones during the changing of the guards at Arlington, or videos of total, antisocial assholes fucking with the sentry? Those are Trump voters.

They also litter all the time. Every time I see a car throw some giant bag of convenience store food wrappers out the window there’s MAGA bullshit all over it.
